Birth and Family Education Classes
At the Women’s Pavilion at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, home to the Birthplace at MedStar Franklin Square, we care for more than 2,800 babies that are born annually. Our experienced obstetrics team prides itself on providing comprehensive, family-centered maternity services throughout a woman's pregnancy journey.
As part of our maternity care, specialists at MedStar Health treat and manage normal pregnancies, high-risk pregnancies, and a broad range of obstetrical conditions.
We support expectant parents' needs by offering a wide range of classes designed to help families prepare for the baby's arrival. Our programs are designed with every family member in mind. Families will have an opportunity to learn more about:

- Infant care and safety

- Parenting and grandparenting skills

Obstetrics and Pregnancy Services
Prenatal care from our physicians includes a full range of obstetrics and pregnancy services for expectant parents, including:
- Preconception Counseling
- Genetic services, including prenatal diagnosis and screening
- Ultrasound
- Obstetrics
- Lactation Resources
While most births occur without complications, it is comforting to know that MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which offer medical monitoring and specialized care not available in a conventional nursery. Our multidisciplinary team cares for babies who are born prematurely, have a low birth weight, or have other medical complications.
