Your brain and nervous system help your endocrine system produce the hormones your body needs. We call this critical partnership the neuroendocrine system. Neuroendocrine tumors grow in the organs of the neuroendocrine system, causing them to produce abnormal amounts of hormones, which then affect how the nervous system works.

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center is home to a team of highly-skilled expert endocrinologists. Our specialists know that a multidisciplinary approach offers patients the best quality care. That means we work together with any other doctors you need, including oncologists, gastroenterologists, and surgeons, to coordinate diagnosis and treatment of your disease.

Treatment options for neuroendocrine tumors often include:

  • Surgery to remove all or most of the tumor
  • Chemotherapy, in cases where tumors have spread to the liver
  • Medication to help stop the tumor from growing and to regulate hormone production
  • Removing a portion of the liver, in cases where tumors have spread to the liver
