Debbie Kavanagh, MS,RN,CDE

Debbie Kavanagh, MS,RN,CDE

Education Specialist

Debbie Kavanagh, an education specialist, has been a certified diabetes educator since 2000. She received both her Bachelor of Science in nursing and her Master of Science degrees from University of Maryland. She is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and its Maryland chapter. Debbie helps educate Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetic in 1:1 and group settings. She values the power of education having previously taught nursing students at the former Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Stevenson University. Debbie is a CPR instructor for the hospital associates and assists with the Diabetes Support Group.

Melissa Kinstlinger

Melissa Kinstlinger, MS, RD, LDN, CDE

Dietitian Educator

Melissa Kinstlinger is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. She has been working as a dietitian educator at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center since 1999. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Delaware in 1994 and received a master’s in nutrition from Case Western University in 1995. Melissa counsels people with diabetes, obesity, cardiac issues, and other nutrition-related conditions in both group and individual settings. She has been interviewed on WBAL and WMAR-TV regarding diabetes care. She has spoken at multiple MedStar Franklin Square diabetes community events. Melissa works to empower people to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Andrea David Diabetes Nutrition Team

Andrea David, MS, RD, LDN

Dietitian Educator

Andrea is a Registered Dietitian working full time within the Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center. She earned her Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from The State University of New York at Oneonta in 2015 and completed her dietetic internship at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital where she began working as an inpatient clinical dietitian following graduation.

Andrea currently provides group and 1:1 nutrition education related to: diabetes, renal disease, cardiovascular disease, and weight management, including work with the bariatric surgery program. In 2017, she attended the Commission of Dietetic Registration Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management program, expanding her knowledge of the most up to date weight management practices. Andrea is an active member of the Diabetes Care and Education practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a member of the National Lipid Association.

Jodi Serafin

Jodi Serafin, MS, RD, LDN, CDE

Dietitian Educator

Jodi Serafin is a registered dietitian, providing diabetes self-management education, weight loss counseling, and bariatric education. Jodi counsels patients one-on-one and also provides group education. She completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Delaware and has a Master of Health Science degree from Towson University. 

Kerry Strom

Kerry L. Strom, RD, LDN

Dietitian Educator

Kerry L. Strom graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in dietetics. She completed her dietetic internship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Upon graduation from her internship, she accepted a job as clinical dietitian in Henderson, NV, and earned her Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian (CNSD) credential. Kerry then accepted a position as clinical nutrition manager in southern California and remained there until 2005 when she started working at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center. She currently focuses on working with individuals pursuing bariatric surgery, but also enjoys educating individuals regarding non-surgical weight loss, diabetes, hypertension, and other nutrition-related conditions.
