Cancer Education for Work Place and Community Groups

Nationwide, four of every 10 people will eventually develop cancer. Most people who develop cancer will not have an inherited cancer gene. In fact, researchers believe that approximately half of all cancers could be prevented by healthier lifestyle choices.

To bring greater awareness to cancer prevention and early detection, The Center for Cancer Risk Evaluation takes an active role in education. Our outreach efforts include:

  • Group speaking engagements
  • Participation in work place and community health fairs
  • Cancer risk profiles

Speakers

Groups - workplace, church or community - can request a cancer prevention spokesperson. Information will be tailored to the specific concerns of the group (risks, prevention and symptoms of specific types of cancer). Our cancer spokesperson will give a lively informative talk with an opportunity afterward for questions and knowledgeable answers.

To arrange for a lunch time speaker, please leave a message at 443-777-7875.

Health Fairs

Each year, our cancer education specialist speaks to thousands of people throughout Baltimore and Harford counties. She meets many of these people through lunch time speaking engagements and through workplace and community health fairs.

To learn more about health fairs, please call 443-777-7657.

Opportunities for Groups and Individuals

Your group also has the opportunity to arrange for individualized cancer risk profiles. Our cancer education specialist will come to your group location. Your members will be instructed to answer confidential questionnaires that ask about personal and family medical histories and personal lifestyles, including dietary habits. Each questionnaire will be scored and recommendations for risk reduction will be returned to each individual. The group cost is $10 per person.

Private cancer risk consultations are also available. Individuals must make appointments to be seen at The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Cancer Institute, Center for Cancer Risk Evaluation. A comprehensive individual assessment typically takes one hour and includes:

  • A physical exam for high-risk cancers
  • Instruction on how to perform self-examinations
  • Evaluation of your personal risk for cancer
  • Counseling on ways you can help reduce your risks

The fee for a private cancer risk consultation is $50.

To arrange for individualized cancer risk profiles for your group or to arrange for a private risk assessment for yourself, please call 443-777-7875.
