colorectal cancer symptoms

Common colorectal cancer symptoms include: diarrhea, constipation, bloody stool, bloating, cramping, fullness, and/or frequent gas pains, along with other potential symptoms. Individuals with colon cancer or noncancerous polyps may have no symptoms at all, especially at first.

If you are experiencing the colorectal cancer symptoms listed below, contact your doctor to determine whether they are connected to colorectal cancer or some something else. You can rely on our devoted colorectal cancer team members to answer any questions you may have. We’ll be with you every step of the way, from diagnosis to treatment to follow-up care.

Colorectal Cancer Symptoms

Colorectal cancer symptoms depend on many factors, such as the size of the tumor, its location and how far the cancer has progressed. In the early stages, you may not experience any colon cancer symptoms at all. However, as cancer progresses, you may notice the symptoms occurring more often or lasting for longer periods of time. It’s also important to note that the signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer are the same as many extremely common noncancerous conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome and hemorrhoids .

Common colorectal cancer symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea, constipation, or the feeling that the bowel has not emptied
  • Unusually narrow stools
  • A bloody stool
  • Bloating, cramping, fullness, and/or frequent gas pains
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Continuous fatigue
  • Vomiting

If you experience these symptoms for more than two weeks, see your doctor. Because other conditions can also relate to the symptoms of colorectal cancer, it's important to consult with your MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center doctor to determine whether they are connected to colorectal cancer or some something else.

As stated above, individuals with colon cancer or noncancerous polyps may have no symptoms at all, especially at first. By the time most symptoms appear, the colon or rectal cancer is already growing, making it harder to treat. It is important to get screened regularly, pay attention to your body, and be on the lookout for anything out of the normal.
