Director, Human Resources, MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center
Shawn previously served as assistant director of human resources at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, School of Public Health, and School of Nursing.
In his current role, Shawn oversees the planning and direction of the human resources department. Shawn works with leaders from clinical and administrative departments to assess the business/clinical processes and assess the human capital issues to determine the most effective HR support and infrastructure. As a result, Shawn has successfully implemented a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) model to improve the overall effectiveness of the human resources function to thrive in a decentralized environment.
Shawn’s areas of expertise are employee and labor relations, organizational design, workforce planning, change management, employee engagement, compensation and benefits programs, strategic policy and procedures implementation, and professional development and training that are consistent with the goals and metrics of sustaining an engaged workforce. Shawn has a reputation for building and supporting strong, successful, strategic teams that drive improvements in areas of human resources, business and clinical operations in complex and decentralized organizations. His proactive vision is to partner with executive and management teams to ensure effective human capital alignment. The human resources function has an active role to achieve and honor the organization’s mission, vision and core values. Shawn places an emphasis on a collaborative environment for recruiting people who are talented, caring team players to form a highly productive diverse organization. Shawn believes in coaching, mentoring, and succession planning to invest his time and share his knowledge for HRBPs to successfully grow and develop. Shawn champions honest respectful feedback, ownership and accountability, and celebrating achievements.
Shawn holds an MBA and Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Baltimore, MD. He is a member of the MedStar Franklin Square Senior Management Team. He serves on numerous internal councils and committees, including the MedStar Disciplinary Action Team Committee, Wellness Committee, Quality Control Committee, Accreditation Readiness Committee, Compliance Committee, Operations Council, and Management Council. Shawn also is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management – SHRM and MHHRA.
