Vice President, Clinical & Support Services
Sandy Winfield, MS, FACHE serves as vice president of Clinical & Support Services at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
A native of Baltimore County, Sandy’s hospital of choice for her and her family has always been MedStar Franklin Square. Sandy joined the hospital in 2000 as Imaging Supervisor. She was appointed Director of Imaging Services in 2005 and Director of Clinical Support Operations in 2013.
In her current role, Sandy oversees the daily operations of key clinical and non-clinical services, including Laboratory Services, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Cardiopulmonary Services, Imaging, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Pharmacy, The Wound Center, Diabetes Education, and Food and Nutrition Services. Sandy also oversees three multiple site directors which is critical to achieving outcomes aligned with the MedStar 2020 performance transition to successfully lead the hospital to a new healthcare era.
Sandy has had many rewarding experiences at MedStar Franklin Square. Some successes that she is proud of that her teams have accomplished include, launching an outpatient IV diuretics program to reduce readmissions for patients who have congestive heart failure; the achievement of the 2016 Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center Silver Recognition Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks; the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) award via the American College of Radiology in the areas of CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine; accreditation from The American Academy of Sleep Medicine; and accreditation from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). She is proud of the successful launch of a new comprehensive visitor management system designed to improve visitor experience and safety. Sandy is also very passionate about associate engagement, achieving world-class status for employee satisfaction for six consecutive years.
Sandy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Imaging from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA; a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Maryland, University College, Adelphi, MD; and is a graduate of the Harford Leadership Academy.
Sandy holds certifications as Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Certified Radiology Administrator, by the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators, and as a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served as a Board Trustee of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Maryland. Sandy is actively involved in several hospital committees. She is the executive sponsor of the Reward and Recognition Team and member of the Patient Experience Steering Committee. Sandy is also a member of the MedStar Health Advisory Council for MedStar Leader of the Future and the MedStar Health Corporate Incident Command Team.
