Michael Matsuura, MD, comes to us from the University of Maryland VA Maryland Medical Center R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. He has actively served with the United States Air Force as a general surgeon and clinical assistant professor since 2009. In 2013, his surgical team was deployed to Ghazni, Afghnistan. He recently separated from the Air Force at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Dr. Matsuura received his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, IA followed by two general surgery residencies: at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI and at the New Jersey Medical School University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ, where he also served as administrative chief resident. He has presented at multiple conferences and symposiums and his clinical expertise includes advanced laparoscopic techniques, splenectomy, herniorrhaphy, hepatobiliary, complex wound management and trauma.
