BALTIMORE— MedStar Health has named colorectal surgeon, David Stein, MD, Regional Chief of Surgery for MedStar Health and Chairman of Surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
In the dual leadership role, Dr. Stein will oversee quality, safety and market leadership initiatives for MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Harbor, MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial Hospitals, and lead a sweeping optimization plan for the new 82,000-square foot surgical pavilion now under construction at MedStar Franklin Square.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Stein to MedStar Health,” said Mimi Novello, MD, FACEP, vice-president of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for MedStar Franklin Square. “His experience as an exemplary physician leader and outstanding clinician has prepared him well to advance surgical services and surgical training in the Baltimore region.”
“Dr. Stein’s surgical experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities perfectly align with our vision for surgical services in the northern region of MedStar Health,” said Stuart Bell, MD, vice-president of Medical Affairs for MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial Hospitals. “He’s recruiting a quality group of practitioners to execute that vision.
In addition, Dr. Stein will oversee the general surgery residency program in the region.
Prior to coming to MedStar Health, Dr. Stein chaired the Department of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine, where he began in 2003 as an assistant professor and Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery. He was also the Chief Operating Officer of the Drexel University physicians faculty group practice and Associate Dean for Clinical Operations at the college.
Dr. Stein is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colorectal Surgery and is a member of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons.
