MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center’s chairman of Pediatrics Scott Krugman, MD, will now oversee the hospital’s medical education programs.

PediatricsBaltimore—(April 8, 2014)—MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center’s Chairman of Pediatrics Scott Krugman, MD, will now oversee the hospital’s medical education programs. Dr. Krugman has been appointed director of Medical Education and designated institutional official for Graduate Medical Education at MedStar Franklin Square; associate dean for Medical Education at MedStar Franklin Square; and professor of pediatrics at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC), MedStar Health’s academic partner.

MedStar Health has one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the country, training more than 1,100 medical residents annually and offering a number of education and training opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, as well as residents and fellows. In this new role, Dr. Krugman will provide strategic oversight and direction for the medical education programs at MedStar Franklin Square, as well as work closely in partnership with GUMC to develop clinical education opportunities for medical students.

Following a pediatric residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Krugman joined MedStar Franklin Square in 1998 as a member of the pediatric faculty. Working closely in conjunction with the department of Family Medicine, Dr. Krugman helped to provide high quality pediatric education to residents and care to patients in the community. In 2002, he became chairman of Pediatrics. As chair of Pediatrics, Dr. Krugman has been instrumental in the development, implementation and evaluation of a new pediatric curriculum for Family Medicine residents.

In addition to his newly appointed roles, Dr. Krugman will remain as chair of Pediatrics and continue to lead pediatric initiatives for MedStar Franklin Square. He will also continue to serves in his roles as the director of Community Medicine and Wellness Service Line at MedStar Franklin Square and the medical director of the hospital’s Child Protection Team.

An expert in pediatrics, Dr. Krugman is involved in several community and statewide organizations. He serves as the president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a clinical professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His work in child maltreatment has led to several appointments including chair of the Baltimore County Child Fatality Review Team, co-chair of the strategic planning committee for The Family Tree, member of the Baltimore County Child Protection Review Panel, member of the Alternative Response Advisory Council for the Department of Human Resources, and core faculty member for the Maryland Child Abuse Providers.
